We are honoured to be asked to provide some input into the match day programmes, which are a great initiative, and we look forward to contributing throughout the season. This is an introduction to who we are.
London Irish Supporters Club (LISC) was formed in 1999, the year the professional team finally stopped playing at The Avenue and played a season at The Stoop, before moving to the MadStad in Reading. We are an independent organisation run separately from, but closely associated with LIRFC and LIARFC. The initial aim was to provide a link
between the club and the wider supporter base through newsletters, competitions and events. Over the years this has expanded to include player sponsorships, and donations to charities associated with London Irish rugby. More on these in later articles.
Despite losing the professional team, our membership last year was well over 400, spread all over the world. We are still one of the largest rugby supporters’ clubs in Europe! Membership renewals are going well this year, and we welcome any new members.
Our past Honorary President was the late great Sir Terry Wogan. The position remained open for a number of years, but we were delighted when long-time London Irish supporter Craig Doyle accepted our invitation to become the new Honorary President of LISC.
